We Finally Opened a New Season 2017!
Irina and I have been metal detecting the hammered coins together since 2009, and this is our 6th season using the XP Deus metal detectors.
Finally the weather brought us an ideal day for metal detecting: lots of sunshine, temperature around 8C (48F) and almost dry farm fields. Not to miss such a great opportunity to start a new season, we decided to drive to a huge farm field nearby and productively spend three hours of free time we had.
Of course, when we arrived at the field, we unfolded our outdoor chairs and began our endless tea session as we always do before turning metal detectors on. Well, while I was trying to remember how to turn my Deus headphones on (five long months of winter… and I forgot how to do it!), Irina was already detecting (photo #2).
You could guess it, of course, she was the first to find a hammered coin as usual (photo #5); thus, officially opening the new season 2017! Then her coin discovery was followed by traditional ritual dancing (photos #3 and #4), and face sunbathing after that (photo #6).
I finally got my Deus working and found my first hammered silver coin of this season (photos #7, #8) too! I put the coin into my special coin container which has been with me since 2000, and never failed to bring me luck! :) Then I kicked the dirt for another 20 minutes and got my second hammered coin (photos #10, #11).
After that Irina and I had our dinner (yup, with a very long tea session afterwards!) sitting on our folding chairs while enjoying the evening (photo #12) and looking forward to our next metal detecting endeavors (photo #13 - “Irina and Lots of Farm Land… With Hammered Coins!” :)).
In total, we got three hammered silver coins - the Early Russian hammered coins called “wire money”, ca. 1613-23 (last photo). The season opening couldn’t be better than that! Happy hunting to all of us guys!
